It’s graduation time in Wellington. The streets were full last week of Victoria University students and their parents celebrating the occasion and this week it will be Massey students’ turn.

The hair salons will be flat out as these young people prepare to look their best as they walk across the stage to receive their hardearned certificates. Outfits will have been selected to complement their robes and various coloured hoods and proud mums and dads will gaze down from the balcony.

I will be one of those parents on Thursday. Family and friends are coming to celebrate with our daughter on the day she formally ends four years of study.

We have all been there through the highs and lows of her gaining the degree she set her sights on in high school. She’s now out in the real world of a 40-hour working week starting off in the career path she has chosen.

But this week will be a chance for all our family to enjoy her success and the role we all played in supporting her to get there.
