Whistling Frog Resort

Nestled in the heart of the Catlins, The Whistling Frog Resort sits in a convenient location for several of the local gems including McLean Falls, Tautuku Wetlands and Cathedral Caves. The on-site café, open October to May, also serves up a mighty fine gourmet steak and mushroom pie that’s not only perfect for refuelling between walks, but was also recognised in the 2017 Supreme Pie Awards. Featuring prime rib-eye steak, mushrooms, aged cheddar and fresh herbs alongside 20 secret ingredients all served in golden pastry, the pie is a fine example of the café’s Kiwiana menu created with a gourmet twist.
