The Insider's Guide to New Zealand

A pie from The Famous Sheffield Pie Shop

-

“Life's good when there's a pie in your hand” is one of this widely adored bakery's favourite sayings. And a drive through Sheffield is not complete without a stop-off for a pie. This hotspot has been producing pies for peckish customers for more than 30 years and no matter what the weather, visitors to the shop can be seen lining up out the door as they wait for their piping hot pockets of goodness. Flavours range from classic mince and cheese to Moroccan lamb to garlic roasted vegetarian, with all ingredients sourced as locally as possible – right down to the flour for the pastry, which is milled from Canterburygrown wheat. As well as delectable pies, there is a tempting array of bakery favourites such as custard squares, apple shortcake, filled rolls and tarts, all made on-site. The bakers also pre-make and freeze pies for customers to take home and have on-hand for when a quick and cosy meal is required.
