Kaiapoi Golf Club
Known as the jewel of North Canterbury in golfing circles, the Kaiapoi Golf Club is a 20-minute drive north of Christchurch. It may be a small club but it has plenty to shout about, including being the home club of Amelia Garvey, Canterbury's number-one ranked female player and the 2017 New Zealand Stroke Play Champion. She is currently studying at the University of Southern California after securing a golf scholarship. The undulating fairways and well-kept greens at Kaiapoi obviously helped Garvey hone her game and, in keeping with 21st-century golf, more than 600 trees have been removed from the course to give what was an 18hole parkland course the look of a proper links. The clubhouse offers a full catering and bar service with fresh food made on site. Visitors are always welcome at the club, which prides itself on its friendliness. It's a real gem indeed. Green fees: 18 holes $25. 373 Williams Street, Kaiapoi. (03) 327 7320, kaiapoigolf.co.nz
