Arnold Kelly says Christmas was a chance for celebratio­n but things could be stressful for people over the holiday period.

He asks that everyone look after their friends and family and drink responsibl­y.

Arnold-Kelly reminded the public that if alcohol or drugs became an issue over the season that services did not stop their support over the holidays.

‘‘Don’t be scared to ask for help. Christmas can be a stressful time,’’ he said.

‘‘Family violence is never OK.’’ Whether you are victim or someone who perpetrate­d there are support services available to you.’’

He reminded the public that if they did not want an ‘‘extra gift’’ from NZ police this Christmas to remember the 4kmh road speed tolerance was in place until January 31.

‘‘Be patient on the roads and don’t take any risks.’’

‘‘Last but not least, remember to lock your cars and property.’’

He said people planning on travelling over the holidays should make sure they have someone keeping an eye on their home.

‘‘Have a happy and safe Christmas and New Year from New Zealand Police.’’ scenes and reminded the public the holidays was a time of travel for most but they needed to arrive safely.
