Families offered range of events

There is no excuse for boredom in Tasman district next weekend with multiple activities on offer for the whole family.

The Historic Transport Museum has its biennial transport show at Higgins Heritage Park along Pigeon Valley Rd, near Wakefield, on Saturday, March 4, and Sunday, March 5, from 10am to 4pm. It will include displays of classic and modern trucks along with other forms of transport.

Museum trust secretary Alister Russ said there would also be demonstrat­ions such loading logs with a steam winch along with free rides for children on a mini Mac truck and army jeep. Demonstrat­ions by Wakefield Volunteer Fire Brigade and St John were planned for Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon respective­ly. Craft stalls and food and drink would also be offered. Entry is $5 per person with children under 13 free.

Mahana School’s popular twilight food and music fiesta is planned for Saturday, March 4, from 3pm to 7pm or Sunday if it’s wet. Now in its fifth year, the event includes food, live music and a range of activities from face painting to a wet fun zone. It’s a gold coin entry. Signs from Dominion Rd, off the Coastal Highway, will direct motorists to the event on School Rd, Upper Moutere.

It’s time to get down and dirty on Sunday, March 5, with the Sport Tasman Muddy Buddy Adventure Run on again at Tas- man School. Race options include one, two or three laps of the 2km course and participan­ts are encouraged to come along in fancy dress.

The event begins with sign in from 9am to 10.15am. The race is set to start at 10.30am after a briefing. Prizegivin­g is due to be held at noon.

Participan­ts can pre-register online for $15 per person/$40 per family or register on site on the day for $20 per person/$50 per family.

For cleaner fun later that same day, families are encouraged to head along to Richmond Aquatic Centre from 1pm to 3pm for a range of games and activities as part of Children’s Day.

Tasman District Council community partnershi­ps officer Lani Evans said free activities for Choice Children’s Day would be offered outside the centre including an obstacle course, bouncy castle and bike ramps.

There would also be free tours of Richmond aboard a doubledeck­er bus leaving from Richmond Baptist Church, next to the centre.

Families could also enjoy the pools inside the aquatic centre for a gold coin entry.
