Jones moves on to next challenge
Waimea College student Cameron Jones is already looking ahead to his next adventure after winning the Coast to Coast two-day event. He spoke with
I am continually meeting people who are still interested and excited in my race and it has surprised me how much media hype there was and still is weeks after. It is great for me and for the sport. Personally I have needed to tick that box and move onto the next thing.
The 33km Goat Pass run is so tough on your whole body and I started it coming of a record breaking 55km cycle so was tired all the way from the start.
5km into the run I wasn’t in the best space. My legs had no power resulting in a few falls. There was never any option other than to finish. I figured a 3 hour run is easier than a 4 hour run so let’s get cracking.
Running up the finish chute with everyone cheering was a great way to end a perfectly executed race. The finish line atmosphere at Coast to Coast is always amazing so it was nice to soak it up with friends and family and watch the fireworks display that night.
I learnt that doing nothing in the week’s leading up can make you feel more tired than if you train. He had me doing something nearly every day, all the way up to race day which got me in perfect form.
My favourite place to train is anywhere I have never been before, somewhere I can explore. I love cycling up the Westbank of the Motueka River. My runs from home take me through the Pine Hill reserve trails and boulder running along the Ruby Bay sea wall.
I can carry my kayak from home to the sea and once there I can paddle anywhere in Tasman Bay I want. Name: Cameron Jones
