Bike fans in Nelson are in line to enjoy the Big Bike Film Night after sellout screenings elsewhere around the country.

This unprecedented collection features the full array of cycling genres with a screening at Annesbrook Church on Friday May 20, 2017.

‘‘The Big Bike Film Night connects cycling fans through the art of imagery, storytelling and incredible filmmaking; yet you don’t have to be a cyclist to relate to these stories, there’s something here for everyone’’ says curator and event director, Brett Cotter.

‘‘It’s so exciting to bring our 2017 film collection to Nelson. The programme has an absolutely breathtaking range of short bike films from around the world, from mountain bike, to road, bmx, travel, personal journeys and triumphs.

‘‘Our mission is to share the best short cycling films from around the world with our audience and these films will leave a permanent tyre tread mark on your heart,’’ Cotter said.

The Big Bike Film Night’s impressive lineup includes a look at London’s stylish bike subcultures, the remarkable story of an American female Bike Frame Builder – one of the very few in the world, the challenge of cycling up the gruelling peak Mount Ventoux, two very different faces of BMX with contrasting stories, a uni-cyclist in South Africa, and the epic New Zealand documentary Muscles and Dreams.

‘‘I’m really chuffed about the array of films on offer and in particular showcasing the homegrown Muscles and Dreams story.

‘‘This follows a bunch of good keen men transforming an idea for a gold miner’s road from the 1800’s into New Zealand’s longest continuous single-track - The Old Ghost Road on the West Coast. I’d describe it as legacy building,’’ Cotter said.

‘‘At the heart of this collection is showing real people being part of some pretty extraordinary stories.’’

The Big Bike Film Night screens on Friday May 20, 7pm at Annesbrook Church, Nelson. Tickets are $20 and can be bought on-line at www.bigbikefilmnight.nz and there will be door sales on the evening ($22 and subject to availability).
