Rock the South hits Nelson

-

Rock the South is coming to Nelson this weekend with an eclectic selection of young Nelson musicians.

Event organiser Paul McConachie said ‘‘the region’s finest youth musicians’’ were returning ot the stage for ‘‘a dose of bass thumping, drum pumping live music to warm you up this winter’’.

SmokeFree Rockquest winners Avasa alongside Quarter Black, Dragon Horse Slayer, The Deadbeet Express, Liam Poole, RELM, Acoustic Knot and Atom Flight (from Blenheim) will take the stage.

‘‘We have assembled an epic lineup which highlights the depth of talent we have across our region,’’ McConachie said.

‘‘It will be great to see them up on stage sharing their music with their peers.

‘‘It is also an excellent excuse to come out of that winter hibernation and use live music to re-energize.’’

McConachie said the event was organised by young people, undertaking a range of production and event management roles.

He said a sound and lighting production workshop is taking place this Saturday, giving the participating musicians an opportunity to learn about how to set up and operate sound and lighting equipment.

The workshop also includes tips and advice to better master performance and stage presence.

Rock the Region is being held on Saturday, June 17 from 8pm to 11pm at the Trafalgar Centre and Rock the Bay will be held at the Pohara Hall on June 24.
