Spring fashion steps onto catwalk

-

Nothing welcomes spring more enthusiastically than the first blush of delicate blossom and the fresh exuberance of the season’s new fashion releases.

The blossom might be waiting coyly in the wings to make its dainty appearance but, thanks to Nelson College for Girls’ PTA Spring Fashion Fling, the latest looks will strut boldly onto the catwalk at Nelson College for

Girls on Saturday, September 2, to reveal the colours and designs we will be admiring in the windows of fashion boutiques this season.

Now in its sixth year, this annual fundraising event which is run by the college’s PTA, has become extremely popular among the Nelson community. The PTA has been busy for months preparing an exciting and fun night out for attendees.

This year’s show will showcase 11 fashion shops and two shoe shops from the Nelson region and will include menswear. The latest trends from Amazon, Cheryl Mackie, Portmans, Beetees, Frock & Soul, Stacey, Dotti, Lucy Georgina, KILT, Nelson Tailors Menswear and Kimberleys, as well as shoe retailers Taylors and Andrea Biani will be on display.

Guests will be entertained by a hip hop dance group, Mad Beat, led by Chloe Kemp, and salsa dancers Salsa Buena Nelson.

‘‘The PTA is very fortunate to have fantastic support from its wonderful sponsors,’’ says PTA chairperson Jo Wiffin.

‘‘The major event sponsors this year are MediaWorks radio station The Breeze and Wendy Pearson of Tall Poppy Real Estate. The PTA recognises and values the contribution that all its sponsors make, and acknowledges these businesses during the show and post event in the media.

‘‘NMIT and Body Shop have been long-time sponsors of the event, providing hairstyling and make-up for our models. This year, the NMIT hospitality team will also be providing delicious catered platters to all the tables.

‘‘Our lovely models comprise students from the college, teachers, and guest models from the Nelson community. This year the PTA will welcome Matt Lawrey, Glen James, and other guest models, to the catwalk.’’

All proceeds raised by the event go back to the college. The PTA assists with prizes at the endof-year prizegiving, provides funding for items and resources which cannot otherwise be funded by the government, and provides funding towards large projects at the college. The Spring Fashion Fling contributes significantly to the PTA’s ability to contribute in this way.

‘‘The PTA is looking forward to another great night – a night full of excitement and surprises,’’ Jo says.

‘‘A bar will be available for the purchase of alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks. Great prizes will be on offer. Grab a group of friends and purchase tickets to the show or even a table.’’

Tickets are on sale now from the Nelson College for Girls’ finance office.

Spring Fashion Fling will be held in the Nelson College for Girls assembly hall, 400 Trafalgar St South, Nelson.

Entry via the main reception area to the hall.
