Talking teen communication
Empowering tween/teen creative and thoughtful communication is a free workshop at the Upper Moutere School on Saturday, September 2 from 3-5pm.
It is offered by Claudia Gold, a social worker who has facilitated hundreds of groups and 30 university classes incorporating expressive arts.
She is visiting Upper Moutere from San Pedro, California to complete writing and editing a fantasy book for older children with Upper Moutere resident Peter Bullock.
The Empowering Teen/ Tween workshop has the goal of creating a time for reflection, where youth can use the powers of creativity to see with their own eyes, hear with their own ears, and express their own truths at a time in their lives where they will be increasingly consuming social media.
The workshop will include discussion and art activities participants can select from, including pastel drawing, multimedia art, poetry, and journal writing. It will specifically focus on how teens and tweens communicate with others.
Gold also will share tools from study with expressive arts pioneers Natalie Rogers and Lucia Capacchione, Five Rhythms founder Gabrielle Roth, poetry teacher Jack Grapes and Virtues Project International.
Youths from 11-16 are welcome to the Empowering Tween/Teen Creative and Thoughtful Communication workshop, as are adults who will meet separately, create their own art piece, and join the teens and tweens toward the close of the workshop.
Contact Claudia Gold by phone at 035432472, or email at Penofgold@gmail.com if you are interested. RSVP is preferred, but people are welcome to show up on that day. Room signs will be posted on the office door at Upper Moutere School.
