-

Name: Gordon Taylor

Age: 63

How long have you been mentoring: A little over a year.

How I got into it: A friend said they knew of someone who was looking for a ‘‘Big Brother’’.

That someone was somebody I knew and we had interests in common.

Who I mentor / My Little Sister /Brother: Blade

I was inspired by: People who knew about Big Brothers, Big Sisters and had told me good it had done for all involved.

It helps if you can: Share together your joy and the ups and downs of life.

Things we do together: Talk about cars, look at cars, visit fellow car enthusiasts, visit garages.

Yes, cars are a big interest to us both but we also walk (Centre of New Zealand, the beach).

Play bowls, eat ice creams and visit the library.

Best experience / best thing about it: Getting to know each other, relax and have fun. Best tip: Listen and be yourself Heart-warming moment: To know some is looking forward to seeing you, to be told you are missed.

This is /isn’t for you if: This needs a commitment. Don’t overcommit and strain to find time to meet, better to spend less time but be dependable to build trust and friendship.

Big Brothers Big Sisters have over 30 children waiting for mentors, particularly boys. Become a mentor today – 03 545 9864 or www.bigbrothersbigsistersnelson.org.nz
