Sale offers bags of bargains for babies

- CARLY GOOCH

Mums with bubs and buggies are encouraged to head to a baby gear extravaganza in Nelson this weekend to grab themselves a bargain.

The Nelson District Parents Centre is holding a second-hand sale of items including clothing, books, toys, nursery equipment and maternity items.

Nelson District Parents Centre president Michelle Hunt said they think they’ll to be ‘‘bombarded’’ by sale-goers due to the high demand for the sale and the first of its kind this year.

‘‘We’re expecting we might reach record numbers, like 500 to 1000, depending on the weather on the day.’’

For a $2 entry fee, which goes to the centre, bargain hunters will find plenty of tables to trawl through, with a starting price of just $1 for a piece of clothing.

All the stall tables sold out in a matter of days, Hunt said.

Goodie bags will be given out to the first 300 people through the doors and a raffle to win $950 worth of Huggies nappies will be on offer — a prize sure to fill up the supply cupboard.

‘‘It should be heaps of fun’’. The Nelson District Parents Centre has been helping parents for more than 40 years. offering support in pregnancy, childbirth and raising infants and toddlers.

Hunt said the event is all about the local community and helping each other out.

This charitable spirit is evident in the centre’s plan to give any unsold baby gear to Ma’s Place, an organisation based in Richmond which offers support to refugees, first-time mums and newcomers to Nelson.

Refreshments on offer at the event will include a fundraising home-made cake stall held by The Nelson Civic Choir, a sausage sizzle and fresh cuppas from The Shot coffee van.

The Baby Gear Extravaganza will be held at the Masonic Lodge Rooms, 107 Nile St on Saturday August 27, 9am to 12.30pm. Entry $2.
