Work­shops chance to get act to­gether

Over the next two weeks Fair­field House will be the stage for three per­form­ing arts work­shops held by four well re­garded and highly ex­pe­ri­enced per­form­ing arts prac­ti­tion­ers.

The Ideas Ex­plo­sions Se­ries is three of work­shops eld at Fair­field House to sup­port Nel­son/ Tas­man artists in cre­at­ing, pitch­ing and flesh­ing out their ideas.

The Nel­son Fringe Fes­ti­val wants to help per­form­ers get ready for the Nel­son Fringe 2017, which will run from 1-7 May.

Nel­son Fringe Fes­ti­val 2017 di­rec­tor, Laura Ir­ish said that the work­shops would lead to an ex­plo­sion of cre­ativ­ity.

‘‘If you’re think­ing ‘I don’t know if my idea is ready ... I’m afraid to share my ideas with any­one... I think I have a good idea but I’m not to­tally sure ... I have a half-writ­ten script and now I’m stuck ...’ th­ese work­shops are for you.’’

The Ideas Ex­plo­sions Se­ries work­shops are an ex­cel­lent op­por­tu­nity to work with es­tab­lished pro­fes­sion­als in go­ing through the ex­tra­or­di­nary process of un­leash­ing cre­ative ideas, she said.

Tu­tors in­clude multi-award win­ning in­ter­na­tional play­wright Michelanne Forster.

Forster is a highly re­garded play­wright, has worked as a scriptwriter/ed­i­tor for Tele­vi­sion New Zealand, and has writ­ten sev­eral short sto­ries, chil­dren’s tele­vi­sion scripts and books for chil­dren.

Forster’s Ideas Ex­plo­sions Se­ries work­shop on Jan­uary 15 will fo­cus on tips and play­writ­ing ba­sics to help par­tic­i­pants find ideas and shape them into a script.

A week later, on Jan­uary 22, Fair­field House will be the site of the fi­nal two work­shops - De­vis­ing The­atre with Amelia Reid-Mered­ith and Shadon Mered­ith; and Cre­at­ing an Im­prov Show with Linda Cal­garo.

Shadon Mered­ith and Amelia Reid-Mered­ith are both ex­pe­ri­enced ac­tors and di­rec­tors with a pas­sion for nur­tur­ing the tal­ent of bud­ding per­form­ers.

Award-win­ning im­prov vet­eran Linda Cal­garo is brings her di­verse ex­pe­ri­ence as an ac­tor, di­rec­tor, pro­ducer, mu­si­cian, writer and work­shop leader to Nel­son as part of her work­shop which will guide par­tic­i­pants in de­vel­op­ing their ideas us­ing im­prov.

The three work­shops held be­tween Sun­day 15 Jan­uary and Sun­day 22 Jan­uary are $40 for 1 work­shop, $70 for two or $99 for all three.
