The rapid rise of Tinashe Marowa

Tinashe Marowa has been one of the quiet achievers in the Tasman United squad. Phillip Rollo spoke with the lethal winger.

- Tasman United fell 3-2 to Canterbury United on Sunday after conceding in the 93rd minute. What was the emotion like in the changing rooms after losing in the final few seconds? How do you assess the past five rounds, where the team has lost each game, be

Obviously the mood was low in the changing room after the loss, no one likes to lose. It was a tough loss to accept, and we really deserved to come out the game with points to show. Unfortunately it’s been the same story the whole season. Against Canterbury we played well as a team, we scored goals, but we also let in goals which were definitely avoidable. It’s a cruel game, and we’re much better than our position on the table suggests. Anyone that has watched us play knows we’re a good side with quality players, and at the moment it’s little mistakes at key moments that’s doing us injustice. It’s a bit of a cliche´, but we really don’t deserve to be bottom of the table.

Before the season started if you had given me the option of having 4 goals in 10 games, it’s safe to say I would have taken it. Since my arrival on trial my only target was to make sure I was in the match day squad, but obviously as the season went on I did well in the youth league and got my opportunity with the first team. It helps that I’m surrounded by good players, which also brings the best out of me.

Obviously as a team we’re frustrated with how things have been this season. But on a personal level, though there’s room for improvement, I’m satisfied with how I’ve been performing this season. I’ve scored four goals and my performances have been alright, but I’m expecting to add a couple more goals and assists by the time the season ends.

Yeah Paul’s a great guy. He’s been a good influence not only to me, but to every young player in the team. He’s someone we all look up to. Not only do we learn from him on the pitch during training sessions and games, but he’s also a role model off the pitch.Training with a player who’s been there and done that is definitely good for us younger players you know.

Nah not really a superstition type of person. Besides making sure I eat right the night before, I just like to relax and stay indoors the day before a game to make sure my body is fully fresh for the game.
