Church to mark day of prayer

-

Stoke Baptist Church is holding a service as part of the World Day of Prayer.

World Day of Prayer is an annual event in early March led by Christian women worldwide.

Stoke Baptist Church member Bev Humphreys said prayers were carried out in more than 170 countries around the same time.

‘‘Prayers are said in more than 1000 languages, beginning at dawn in the Pacific and finishing more than 40 hours later in Alaska.’’

She said this year’s event was organised by the World Day Prayer committee in the Philippines.

‘‘We are fortunate to have contributions from Filipino women who have made Nelson their home,’’ Humphreys said.

This year’s theme is ’’Am I Being Unfair to You?’’.

Humphreys said people attending the service could expect a written order of service prepared by ‘‘the ladies in the Philippines’’.

‘‘Representatives of each of the local churches in Stoke are taking different sections of the service.

‘‘It’s great to have woman of the local churches to get together, realising they’re part of a wider Christian community, here in the Stoke area and throughout the world.’’

The World Day of Prayer service takes place on March 3 at Stoke Baptist Church at 10:30am.
