Over five years.

With my daughters becoming teenagers and increasingly off doing their own thing, I thought that I could turn that free time into service to the community.

Having enjoyed parenting and keen for a bit of ‘‘boy energy’’ around (I had missed out on that!), and hearing that BBBS was looking for mentors, I thought I would give it a go.

Jackson, aged almost 10.

The good research showing how effective mentoring is for boys without dads for building their resilience, a greater sense of confidence and belonging. The research also shows wider community benefits with reduced loitering and crime and other social problems.

The biggest thing is to try to be a kid again. BBBS work hard to try to make a good match.
