Choir seeking young voices for chorus

-

The Nelson Civic Choir is assembling a children’s chorus to sing in the October 15th performance of Sir Karl Jenkins Cantata Memoria: for the children of Aberfan.

A number of children have already come forward, but more are needed – boys and girls aged between 8 and 14 who are confident singers.

This will be the first performance in New Zealand of a major new work which commemorates the death of 116 children in the mining village of Aberfan, Wales, a little over 50 years ago.

Children are central to the piece, and this is a wonderful opportunity for young singers to be on stage at the heart of a production which includes an adult choir and full orchestra.

This concert will complete a memorable chain of performances undertaken by the Civic Choir. Following their presentation of Jenkins’ The Armed Man in 2015, they were invited to New York, to sing in the North American Premiere of the Cantata Memoria.

Parents of children who would like to be considered for this choir should contact Diana Mellor on 03 546 7299 or Zoe Bennett on zoeabennett@yahoo.co.nz

Adult male singers are also required to augment the main choir: please contact Chris Lukies on 03 547 3166 / 027 4516389.
