MGC on a roll
The Marlborough Girls’ College senior A netball team are on course for a lofty placing at the South Island schools champs in Nelson. They qualified top of their group with a convincing win 51-10 win over Southland’s Aparima College yesterday morning, to qualify for the A grade top 16. In the second round, they accounted for their first-up opponents, Villa Maria College from Christchurch, 40-36. In a tense struggle, MGC won the first quarter by seven goals, lost the next two but recovered to win the last, and the match. They will play Verdon College from Invercargill and Columba College from Dunedin today. If they win both, MGC will earn a place in the semifinals. Meanwhile Queen Charlotte College, playing in C grade have continued on their merry way. In the morning they beat Amuri Area School 25-22 to head their section, then accounted for Mountainview High School 57-12 in the first of their round two matches.
