The Marlboroug­h Girls’ College senior A netball team are on course for a lofty placing at the South Island schools champs in Nelson. They qualified top of their group with a convincing win 51-10 win over Southland’s Aparima College yesterday morning, to qualify for the A grade top 16. In the second round, they accounted for their first-up opponents, Villa Maria College from Christchur­ch, 40-36. In a tense struggle, MGC won the first quarter by seven goals, lost the next two but recovered to win the last, and the match. They will play Verdon College from Invercargi­ll and Columba College from Dunedin today. If they win both, MGC will earn a place in the semifinals. Meanwhile Queen Charlotte College, playing in C grade have continued on their merry way. In the morning they beat Amuri Area School 25-22 to head their section, then accounted for Mountainvi­ew High School 57-12 in the first of their round two matches.
