A mother has admitted neglect after drink-driving with her 3-year-old son on her lap. Tahi Mahu, 34, pleaded guilty to a charge of neglect of a child under 18 when she appeared in the Huntly District Court yesterday. She also pleaded guilty to driving in a dangerous manner, driving without an appropriate licence and driving with excess breath alcohol. Mahu was more than three times the legal limit when she drove down Great South Rd in Ngaruawahia at about 5pm on August 7, with her preschool-aged son on her lap.
