Counting our chickens

-

There is an old saying, “pride cometh before a fall”.

Will the media please shut up about the All Blacks breaking the long-standing world record of 17 consecutive tests this weekend? We have been here before and still that record stands.

We believed we were in the 2007 World Cup semifinals before we played France. We believed we had broken the world record before drawing with Australia 19-all. We believed the 2011 World Cup final was won before the game even kicked off and nearly lost.

There are two teams playing tomorrow night. Australia will not lie down and let us take the record. So for the sake of breaking a world record that has stood for 50 years, can we please just calm down and at least agree that it needs to be won before we claim any great achievement.
