As noted last week, Christchur­ch Airport got $1.58m of government money to — as the official documents say — “support the commenceme­nt and growth of year round direct air services by China Southern Airlines between Guangzhou and Christchur­ch.” The airport company is keen to note that the money was not given to the airline, but was used to market the South Island in China.
