It was heartening to see that virtually all politician­s, irrespecti­ve of political persuasion, had the good grace to acknowledg­e John Key’s outstandin­g contributi­on as PM over eight years. The one notable exception was Winston Peters who instinctiv­ely defaulted to his usual “conspiracy theory mantra” stating Key’s reasons for stepping down “cannot be credible or for any reasons he has given.” At a time like this you would at least hope for some humility.
