Letters to the Travel Editor
The last Trump Dear Sir, I agree with what you wrote [‘The Trump bump’, Travel, February 7], but I won’t be travelling to the US for the foreseeable future, even as a transit passenger, simply because I refuse to give my fingerprints and other personal information to their Government. US border checks are already lengthy, invasive and somewhat insulting. The idea that my biometric data will end up with the NSA is frankly scary.
I can build bridges elsewhere — right now the US seems to want its wall. Anita Neal Donald Trump’s effort to block some travellers continues to bug readers. of signage. A temporary sign has been erected.

The Travel Gods smile again Dear Sir, Once again Emirates has done its customers proud [‘Letters to the Travel Editor, Travel, February 7]. Our experience with this airline equals or maybe surpasses this journey; we were superbly catered for both in flight and transit.
I was regrettably taken sick thus curtailing our holiday in Italy, in October, 2015.
We had to change our travel plans at very short notice, original travel arrangements with Singapore Airlines were cancelled (the smog in Singapore exacerbated my health problems during the outward flight).
My husband bravely booked two Business Class tickets online in Rome. To our disbelieving amazement these turned out to be First Class tickets to Auckland via Dubai and Brisbane. We did have what we thought was comprehensive travel insurance and blithely expected the company to reimburse — however that was not to be (warning read the fine print), but our upgrade was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and more than compensated for the above shoddy treatment. Regards, Caroline Morris The Travel Editor responds: It seems we need to make another offering of thanks to the Travel Gods. Well played, Emirates.
