Empty threat
Not many people would disagree with the notion that multinationals should pay their fair share of tax in countries where they get their revenue. Achieving this, however, is a bit more complex. And sometimes politicians get a bit carried away, just to get a headline. Case in point: NZ First leader Winston Peters, saying Apple should “play the game” or not “have a market in our country”. It sounds like tough talk, but NZ banning giants such as Apple, Microsoft, Google and Facebook, and their products, might not be as popular as Peters or others think.
