Officials say a self-driving Uber SUV was operating on its own when it was struck by another vehicle making a left turn at an intersecti­on in Arizona, where the company is testing autonomous vehicles. No one was seriously injured. Uber says its vehicles have been grounded as it investigat­es. Police in Tempe say the self-driving SUV was obeying the law and the driver in the other car who didn’t yield was cited for a violation. Uber says there were two operators in the front.

New York police say a 13-year-old boy was killed and another teenager was injured as they tried to hop along rooftops in Brooklyn and plunged about four stories to the ground. The boys were found in the back of the building in Bushwick. Thirteen-yearold Rame Pierre-Louis had severe trauma to his head and body. His 15-year-old friend had pelvic injuries but was expected to live.

A South Carolina man who wrapped electrical tape around a dog’s muzzle to stop her from barking has been sentenced to five years in prison. Media outlets report William Dodson’s sentence represente­d the state’s maximum for animal cruelty. Caitlyn was found in critical condition. The tape cut off blood flow to her tongue.

A blogger from Singapore who was jailed for his online posts blasting his Government was granted asylum to remain in the United States, an immigratio­n judge ruled. Amos Yee, 18, has been detained by federal immigratio­n authoritie­s since December when he was taken into custody at Chicago’s O’Hare Internatio­nal Airport. Lawyers said he could be released from a Wisconsin detention centre as early as tomorrow.
