The Trump log

-

The Massachusetts city of Cambridge is weighing whether to call for an impeachment investigation into Donald Trump. Vice-Mayor Marc McGovern has filed a policy order for today’s city council meeting pushing for an investigation. McGovern and others believe Trump has violated the emoluments clause of the US Constitution that prohibits government officials from profiting from foreign businesses. McGovern said he believes the Republican president is still deeply involved in his business operations. Cambridge voted for Democrat Hillary Clinton in the presidential election. The city is across the Charles River from Boston, and is home to Harvard University. Trump brought Senator Rand Paul to his Virginia golf course yesterday to talk health policy with the outspoken critic of the failed plan to repeal and replace so-called Obamacare. The outing to Trump National Golf Club came hours after Trump tweeted that talks on replacing the law have been going on and “will continue until such time as a deal is hopefully struck”. He added that anyone who thinks the effort is dead “does not know the love and strength in R Party!” Trump yesterday took to Twitter to call on the “fake news media” to turn their attention to questions of illegal government surveillance and ferreting out the leakers within his Administration. Last month, Trump accused former President Barack Obama of wiretapping Trump Tower, a baseless claim that Trump and his team have continued to trumpet despite providing no corroborating evidence.
