Ton for premiership leader at Waipa

-

National Jockeys’ Premiership leader Chris Johnson extended his margin on the chasing pack when he scored on Combat Warrior in the opening race at Te Awamutu yesterday.

The victory brought up 100 winners for the season for the “magic man” as he produced a typically comprehensive performance to guide the Graeme and Debbie Rogerson trained runner to a comfortable win. Settled handy to the speed Johnson asked his mount for an effort approaching the home bend as they shot clear of the pack.

Combat Warrior maintained a solid run to the wire as she downed the fast finishing Pearlescence by a neat length with Frazzle back in third.

Johnson was at it again later in the day when he guided another Rogerson runner in Commander to a narrow victory in the 5th race on the programme.

Johnson now leads the premiership race by nine from Danielle Johnson with Alysha Collett another six wins astern as they head into the last five weeks of the season.
