Canterbury retained rugby’s Ranfurly Shield with a thumping 71-5 win over challengers Wanganui at AMI Stadium in Christchurch last night. Meads Cup champions Wanganui were no match for Mitre 10 Cup first division giants Canterbury although they put on a brave showing throughout the contest. The Cantabs ran in a staggering 10 tries to one as the holders showed their class. The Shield now goes on the road to Ashburton where Mid Canterbury will challenge on Friday, August 4.
