The New Zealand Herald

Short & sweet

-

On drugs

So we now have drug testing for school sports teams. What a huge indictment against New Zealand society.

Cliff Solomon, Greenhithe.

On Turei

Presumably the kind of conversation Metiria Turei wanted to open about benefit fraud was not one that ends with the visceral backlash from working parents which might see the Green Party lose the election. She should resign.

Juliet Golightly, Whangarei.

On plastic

Considering the large volume of unprocessed timber we export, why are we not replacing plastic bags and wrappings with recyclable paper from this unlimited source. Some health food firms have done this and supermarkets already supply them for limited products, which then go into a plastic bag.

Nick Nicholas, Greenlane.

On Trump

For almost a year now the Herald has continued a relentless pillory of Donald Trump. Never a kind word, never a balanced assessment of anything good he might have achieved. I have to ask one simple question: Why do you hate the man so much? He did win the US election didn't he? Jules Riding, Whangarei.

On Barclay

Why are you still banging on about the Todd Barclay/Bill English non-event? So what if Barclay recorded someone without their knowledge or consent, with the proliferation of mobile phones with cameras it happens all the time now. And so what if the PM knew about it and did nothing. Big deal. Lloyd Ilton, Swanson.

On Domain

Given that Auckland Council has borrowed to the absolute limit and can borrow no more, isn't it time to concentrate on core business and step back from any non-essential art, decorative or memorial projects until our finances are healthier?

Adrian Wilson, Northcote.
