Chinese NZ Herald site anniversary
The Chinese New Zealand Herald website has turned one and was celebrated at a gala dinner in Auckland last year.
The site, a partnership between NZME and the Chinese Herald, provides a trusted platform where audiences can access Chineselanguage news and journalism.
The site publishes articles from the New Zealand Herald, which is owned by NZME, the print version of the Chinese Herald and other Chinese news sources.
Chairperson of the Chinese New Zealand Herald and NZME chief strategy officer, Sarah Judkins, said the partnership had been a great success.
“Auckland, and increasingly the wider New Zealand is a diverse multicultural place and our audiences are demanding content where and when they want it, in the format that best suits their needs.”
The Chinese New Zealand Herald website has been a welcome addition to the digital landscape for both readers and advertisers,” Judkins told the dinner at Sky City last night.
“The Chinese New Zealand Herald is the first NZ website to offer the ability to share content across Twitter, Facebook, WeChat and Weibo, illustrating the site’s commitment to being a truly cross cultural platform,” she said.
NZME’s Fran O’Sullivan said Kiwis’ lack of cultural understanding was a key barrier to doing business in China and joint ventures like this one could help bridge the gap, O’Sullivan said.
Chinese languages are the second most commonly spoken in Auckland after English, with 99,744 Chinese speakers making up 7.7 per cent of Aucklanders who were old enough to speak at the 2013 Census.
