Party of Trump
Kushner ‘registered to vote as a female’
lengthy special election could hardly be a worse set of circumstances for Republicans. This is one of just two big races late this year, along with the Virginia governor’s race in early November. And you can bet Democrats will try like hell to make it competitive enough to keep Moore in the news until December 12 — even if they don’t think they can win.
That will, in turn, force Republicans to explain how this guy fits into their party. Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin showed how difficult a trick that can be yesterday, telling CNN that “no two people agree 100 per cent of the time”.
That response works fine for policy differences, but not for arguing that Sharia law exists in the US and that Obama is a Muslim.
Republicans got a healthy dose of “Do You Agree With This” when Trump was running.
The whole thing eventually worked out, but it was always an extremely difficult needle to thread — distancing themselves from Trump’s most extreme positions while still supporting him.
In Moore, Democrats have almost a caricature of a Deep South Republican whose views would have been outside the mainstream even decades ago.
Before Trump, Moore was the kind of candidate Republicans might have disowned or tried harder to beat in the primary.
Today, they have to bearhug him and hope against hope that it will all be okay. Jared Kushner’s bad week just got a little weirder.
On Monday, Politico reported that the US President Donald Trump’s sonin-law and adviser corresponded with top White House officials through a private email server (and he wasn’t the only one).
On Tuesday, a prankster impersonating him — apparently convincingly — asked his lawyer what to do with pictures “featuring adult content” he said he had received.
The lawyer responded: “Don’t delete. Don’t send to anyone. Let’s chat in a bit.”
Then yesterday it was claimed that when Kushner registered to vote in 2009, he identified his sex as female.
Democratic opposition research group American Bridge spotted the error, which was first reported by Wired.
It prompted any number of questions.
There were only two options on the New York voter registration form he filled out: M, for male, and F, for female. Jared Kushner Did he mean to register as a female? Was it unintentional? If so, how did he mess that up? A spokesperson for Kushner did not respond to a request for comment. Prior to 2009, his New Jersey voter registration noted his gender as “unknown”, The Hill reported. It’s not the first time Kushner has run into trouble with important paperwork. This year, the Washington Post reported that Kushner, who has a long list of responsibilities under Trump, filed updates three times to his national security questionnaire because of missing information.
