Short & sweet On driving

-

So, Kiwi drivers are the worst in the world — rude, impatient and reckless. Really? I clock up 15,000-20,000 kilometres a year and I don't see them. Sure, the occasional fool, but rarely. Indicate you need to change lanes in Auckland and within seconds someone makes a space. Driving rural roads I don't see bad drivers either.

Alan Kemp, Herne Bay.

On speed

I would like to know why our road police do not ever seem to stop speeding trucks. Any car at 10km/h above the limit is less dangerous than a large truck and trailer. A truck in the centre lanes can only be breaking trucks’ speed limit or holding up other traffic. John Laing, Drury.

On Trump

Optimists consider President Trump to be an aberration, pessimists think he’s typical of today’s USA and exactly what Americans deserve. New Zealanders try to be optimistic because many of us have a profound respect and affection for all that is best about America and its people. Arch Thomson, Mt Wellington.

On Labour

If A. J. Petersen has a problem with employees getting a fair deal in the work place, then perhaps it a good thing that he or she is no longer “in business”.

John Capener, Kawerau.

On reflection

Some seem concerned that Jacinda Ardern will turn into another Helen Clark. As long as she doesn’t turn into another John Key that’s fine by me. Reg Dempster, Albany.

On investing

I’ve just been reading the article by Peter Lyons about young people investing. Peter didn’t mention the new Sharesies organisation directed at young people wanting more modest investments. With a fee of only $30 a year, this seems a good place to start. Merrie McDougall, Onehunga.
