On stadium

So New Zealand Cricket, New Zealand Rugby, The Vodafone Warriors, New Zealand Football, The Blues, the NRL and the AFL all support a stadium in downtown Auckland. And why wouldn’t they? These commercial organisations all stand to profit from it. Why don’t they support it financially and take some of the burden off the ratepayers and taxpayers they seem to expect to fund their profits? Lyall Dawson, Sandringham Perhaps the most troubling aspect of the stadium report is this: it appears that some employee of Auckland Council had authority to commit us, the ratepayers, to expenditure of almost $1 million with no supervision by the mayor or the council and possibly without prior approval. Peter Newfield, Takapuna

On DWTS

What a grumpy, mean spirited letter. How dare you poke a cruel finger at my favourite corny show? I say three cheers for these celebrities going out of their comfort zones to give it a go and have some fun, all in the name of a worthy charity. Mary Granfors, Onehunga

On labour shortage

Employers in the construction industry are moaning about skilled migrant workers leaving New Zealand. These employers had a decade to train New Zealanders but — as per usual — they did not. Do not moan about a “crisis” that is of your own making. Cheyne McDowall, Rotorua

On North Shore

Surely the state of traffic on the southern motorway signals the wisdom of the North Shore having its own domestic airport. It’s time the North Shore thumbed their nose at Rodney Hide and declared themselves a satellite city. Gary Hollis, Mellons Bay
