NZ pair in last eight of doubles

It was a long but successful day for the New Zealand players in the men’s doubles at Wimbledon yesterday.

Michael Venus and Artem Sitak advanced to the quarter-finals with their partners, while Venus will get to play on the hallowed Centre Court.

Firstly, Artem Sitak and Divij Sharan made it backto-back victories from two sets down with a 1-6, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 win over Jonathan Erlich from Israel and Poland’s Marcin Matkowski.

Then Venus and South African partner Raven Klaasen bounced back from losing the third and fourth sets to record a 6-3, 7-6, 6-7, 6-7, 6-3 victory over Joao Sousa from Portugal and Argentina’s Leonardo Mayer.

In the quarter-finals, Sitak and Sharan will play Jack Sock and Mike Bryan on Court 3.

Venus and Klaasen are up against local hope Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares from Brazil in a match that will be played on Centre Court.
