Courage in cave rescue applauded

-

They have all been rescued. What a magnificent exercise these many elite divers, engineers and the rescue team from Thailand and around the world have achieved in getting these 12 young boys and their coach to safety. How can we possibly thank them, how can we possibly show our appreciation for the fantastic operation that has been performed by this wonderful team? Surely this has to be the most difficult and drastic rescue of all time.

From around the world so many of us are in awe of their expertise. I also think the boys are to be praised for their efforts to survive mentally and physically up to 18 days in a flooded cave, and without any skills complete the dive and the water hazard of the 4km journey to safety.

The other person we should be proud of is the coach who obviously managed to keep their spirits up and supply them with some sustenance and fluid during those 10 days. They are all heroes and their families should be proud of them. But let us not forget the Thai Navy Seal who lost his life performing part of the rescue operation. Jimmi Farry, Grey Lynn.
