Sympathy dropping

-

Until now the public generally has some sympathy for nurses’ pay and better conditions initiative. Overall I believe nurses do a good job but few think for one moment they are overworked or overstressed. However, that sentiment is about to sour as nurses have chosen to ignore their union’s advice to accept the Government $520 million pay offer with a 9 per cent pay increase, and planned to strike today.

This must be regarded as militant action fuelled by the lunatic fringe so public support will dissipate. The Government should now withdraw all offers.

Police, teachers, all wanting lollies from the soft touch socialist Labour coalition. The outcome will be economic pain for everyone, rampant inflation with costs going gangbusters. By all means pay fair wages for a fair day’s work with reduced staff levels. That might work, anything else will fail. Rob Paterson, Mount Maunganui.
