Re: Simon Kenny’s comment about not knowing which end Air New Zealand’s ATRs load from [“Flight Check”, Travel, July 10].

A tip given to me by a flight attendant: If the flight number starts with a 5, it’s an ATR, passengers embark at the back. If the flight number starts with an 8, it’s a Q300 and loads, conventionally, from the front. Adrienne von Tunzelmann QSO CFInstD

The Travel Editor responds: What a wonderful — and very plane-nerdy — factbomb.

A real card

Sorry, Sheryl [”We don’t like”, Travel, July 31]: I spent 10 days in Honolulu paying for everything It starts with an 8.

with my Air New Zealand One Smart Mastercard and never got a refusal.

Not one single charge and was able to load US$ when the dollar rate suited me. Wouldn’t leave home without it.

Sally Tetro, Takapuna. Got something to say? Send your letters to the Travel Editor Nice or noisy?

Re: The Crowne Plaza hotel Singapore airport [“Room Check”, Travel, July 31]. I stayed there a few months after it opened some years ago.

I was woken every hour or two during the night by the sound of planes taking off, despite the double glazing of windows. I won’t be back. Sincerely, Neil Curtis

The Travel Editor responds: I loved the place. And the location of the hotel — pretty much inside an airport — suited me down to the ground.

Hot and spicy

Could you please do a review on Mauritius and advise us about the shopping, food, markets, spices, tourist spots, on this island in the Indian Ocean. The travel agent I approached said he had done only one travel booking there in 20 years. Thank you, Sara

The Travel Editor responds: Mauritius doesn’t pop up on our radar too often — but it looks lovely. Hopefully one of our readers or advertisers might get in touch with suggestions.
