Short & Sweet

-

On lifesaving

Surely Peters or Jones could stick their hands deep in the regional pork barrel and help alleviate the funding problems of surf lifesaving. I would have thought most Kiwis would consider this a better use of taxpayers’ cash than helping out a deeply discredited industry like horse racing.

Keith L. Muir, Mount Maunganui.

On insurance

Recently a bank changed my credit card criteria to avoid free travel insurance, then when I purchased the more expensive card their insurance company refused cover. Wouldn’t it be perfect if Jacinda created an NZ Labour insurance company that National couldn’t sell?

Gerry O’Meeghan, Papamoa.

On rugby

I love rugby. I hate the idea of taxpayers being asked to spend more of our dollars on the All Blacks. Steve Hansen and his ilk need to ask their sponsors for more money and make more concerted efforts to fill our stadiums. Steve Horne, Raglan.

On transport

Auckland Transport seem to believe that by not providing adequate Park & Ride facilities they will force people out of their cars.

People will stop using their cars when public transport provides a safe, comfortable alternative that is efficient and cost-effective.

Sharon McGaffin, Birkenhead.

On cartoon

The cartoon by rabid left-wing cartoonist Rod Emmerson in Friday’s Herald showed National MP Michael Woodhouse in a Nazi-style uniform. How offensive is that? If Mr Woodhouse had called Emmerson a Nazi there would have been a scream of pain from all quarters.

David Morris, Hillsborough.

On elephants

I can hardly breathe in here with all the elephants the Herald is bringing into my house. In Thursday’s and Friday’s papers there were three, plus a white one lurking around. Enough.

Nanda MacLaren, St. Heliers.
