Short & Sweet
On trams
If Phil Twyford and Phil Goff are so confident trams along Dominion Rd to Auckland airport is right, they should instruct their officials to compile and publicise lists comparing the number of cities in the world with trams as opposed to trains connecting their international airport to their central city. Graham Bush, Parnell.
Please Mr Twyford, show us you are intelligent not arrogant. Hold an open investigation into the merits of a light rail or heavy rail connection to the airport. The rush to light rail seems based on a flimsy fad. David Willetts, Devonport.
On petrol
The Prime Minister is incorrect. The petrol price increase is due to the recent international price rise of oil to US$30, the recent drop of the NZ dollar by 12 per cent and several new taxes. She shows political naivety to blame the petrol companies. Hylton Le Grice, Remuera.
Petrol is unaffordable when the social, environmental and geopolitical costs are considered. Jacob Connor, Port Albert.
When the Prime Minister starts treating us mere mortals like idiots she has a problem. She cranked up petrol prices herself. Now that she has an embarrassingly big surplus, it is looking like they have put a rabbit in charge of a lettuce. Ben Walker, Hamilton.
On sculpture
I sincerely hope the man who broke Len Lye's Water Whirler sculpture in Wellington is made to pay the cost of its retrieval and repair. Anne Martin, Helensville.
On game
Isn't it great to scrape an unlikely win out of desperate defiance after a lacklustre performance? The crowd’s dumb-struck reaction alone was worth waiting for. The Boks let that one slip. Glenn Forsyth, Taupo.
