SNAP CHAT with Kura Forrester

-

My first job was . . . at Eagle Boys Pizza. Each week you would have to have a turn at getting dressed up as a giant eagle, waving a sign and dancing around on the street, encouraging customers to come buy a pizza. I was 15 and pretty shamed out, but never broke character. Ever.

It taught me . . . a lot, mainly about sitespecific entertainment, how to embody an eagle, and never blaming your audience if you’re having a bad show.

My big break came . . . over a lot of time and practice. I can’t think of one biggie . . . that might still be coming.

The last job I quit was . . . a full-time cafe job I had for a week many moons ago. The boss was a maniac and I couldn’t take it anymore when she asked me to mop under the fridge.

The most famous person I’ve ever met

is... Jacinda Ardern. She came to see a play I was in. A few weeks later she was the new Prime Minister and saw me at a restaurant. She came over and asked how I was and what my next projects were. I was like, “Did we just become best friends?”

Shewas... so genuine, and generous of spirit.

The best time I’ve had on stage was

... playing Fleur Bian in Camping, doing poi, strutting around, and laughing so hard at the other cast members.

But the worst was . . . not having enough time for a technical rehearsal in a big solo show I performed at the Herald Theatre in 2015. It was opening night, I walked on and crashed straight in to the set, then proceeded to just hold on and get the show done before bursting into tears in my undies in the dressing room. I look back now at that and crack up but at the time it was bleak. My dream role would be . . . anything that makes people laugh hard, cry softly, and encourages them to consider their heads, hearts and how they are being in the world.
