Holiday Snaps

Cook Islands Where:

-

How: An easy four-hour hop across the South Pacific, you’ll arrive on holiday before you’ve left home. Flights from New Zealand to Rarotonga cross the International Date Line, so you’ll gain a day on the way there. Of course that does mean you’ll lose a day on your way home, but let’s not think about that just yet, you’ve got a whole holiday to plan ...

Why: Going to the Cook Islands is like going to stay at a friend’s particularly beautiful beach town. The people are ridiculously friendly and generous of spirit. Everything there is easy and you’re going to feel right at home — although in a home that probably has a much better beach right outside your front door. It’s not just resorts, beaches and snorkelling — although they are plentiful, and magical. Hike volcanic peaks, spot rare and endangered bird species, watch spectacular cultural shows, bar hop, browse local markets and shop for black pearls. And whatever your religious persuasion, don’t miss the Sunday Church services. Seeing the locals resplendent in their best attire, and hearing their soaring voices as they sing beautiful gospel hymns, will make a morning you’re glad you got out of bed for.
