Getting there: Luxury Corporate Cars from Hobart Airport, and it was indeed a luxurious ride.

Check-in experience: Seamless, from the moment I stepped inside the building.

Room: 1623 on the fourth floor, with views to die for. Price: $261 a night but specials to be had if you book early. What's so good about this place? Top-notch location, accommodat­ion, and service. Non-smoking air-conditione­d rooms, hair salon and hotel porter. Wedding services on site. And the bad? Nothing — other than not being able to take home the heavenly kingsize bed I slept in.

What’s in the neighbourh­ood? Nearby are the Federation Concert Hall, Maritime Museum of Tasmania, Theatre Royal. Few minutes walk to Salamanca Place, Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. Great waterfront bars, cafes, restaurant­s and more too. Toiletries: Premier brand toiletries and lotions.

Food and drink: Try the a la carte Restaurant Tasman in the hotel lobby, serving local seasonal produce and free-range meats. Or grab a drink at the Atrium Bar, also in the lobby. overlookin­g historic Sullivan’s Cove. Scrumptiou­s widerangin­g breakfast menu served from 6.30am. The bed: Kingsize and luxurious. Premium bedding. I had the best sleep I’ve had for a long time.

Bathroom: Immaculate and tastefully decorated. Free Wi-Fi: Compliment­ary.

Noise: Nothing of note, too busy out and about.

Room service: Runs for 24 hours a day.

Perfect for: Stepping off into your first visit to Hobart and being close to the action. Offers a variety of function spaces suitable for everything from intimate meetings to major convention­s. Bottom line: 10 out 10 for location, amenities, service. The multilingu­al staff went out of their way to be helpful.
