On smoking

I am curious. If recreational marijuana becomes legal what would happen to our non-smoking outdoor areas? Margaret Bongard, Grey Lynn.

On Jami-Lee Ross

Jami-Lee Ross will bounce back. Negativity is the last thing he needs. His recovery largely depends on support and media reporting. It is the perfect opportunity to show that we are a supportive nation. No matter what the past week or so has held we should all be offering the korowai of aroha and awhitanga. Jami-Lee is one of us. Let’s walk the talk. Hiko te korero. Gary Neil Denney, Eden Terrace.

On climate

Climate Change Minister James Shaw notes we need electric vehicles but don’t make cars. While many developed countries (US, UK) are reducing emissions ours are out of control; we need to stop importing fossil-fuel-burning cars right now. Why can’t we build a simple plugin car that meets the basic requirements for personal transport better than bicycles? Dennis N. Horne, Howick.

On road delays

All Aucklanders should prepare themselves for continued interminable delays around the Warkworth area at holiday and other rush times. The new motorway won’t solve this. They want to exit the Matakana link road south of the SH1 interchange by way of a T intersection. As soon as it gets busy, traffic will bank up back along the link road and back up SH1 until it clogs the new motorway interchange. Tom Burton, Snells Beach.
