What are the MTV EMAs?

The European Music Awards are an annual music awards show and an alternative to the American MTV awards.

They are hosted by different countries each year and this year were in Bilbao, Spain. As well as the usual best of genre awards, there are categories for different countries including New Zealand.

This year, Cuban-American singer Camila Cabello (pictured) took home some of the biggest awards including Best Artist, and Best Song and Best Video for Havana. Cardi B, Dua Lipa, Nicki Minaj, Panic! at the Disco also won major categories. The show, hosted by Hailee Steinfeld (who, at one point, appeared on stage in a white dress and was spray painted by robots), also featured performances from Nicki Minaj, Janet Jackson and Halsey.
