Fireworks
I have fond memories of letting off tom thumbs, double-happies, jumping-jacks and what I think were threepenny “sky” rockets in the backyard, under the supervision of parents, but I don’t recall fire brigades dealing with out of control fires. It seems things are different now. I don’t know what the solution is, but maybe some changes can be made. Part of the answer could be changing the time we have fireworks night to Matariki, when it gets darker earlier, so the mayhem can start earlier, and when vulnerable vegetation is less dry and so less inclined to catch alight.
