Noxious plants out of control

-

Throughout Northland, Auckland and the Waikato the privet (poisonous to animals and people) is flowering yet again, providing a new crop of berries to be dispersed by a grateful bird population. Not to mention the kapok vine/moth plant, tobacco plant and other weeds. These are hugely detrimental to our native bush and there is no ongoing control.

While the vision of a “river” of trees snaking along the motorways and valleys of our city is compelling, the Auckland Council, Transit NZ, KiwiRail, residents and farmers must take steps to ensure the privet, acmena and other noxious plants are eradicated.
