Wait continues

Alejandro Valverde’s wait for his first win in the world champion’s jersey has continued, being pipped by Adam Yates on stage four of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana. Yates powered away on a tough final climb and held on to claim his first victory in eight months, and deny Valverde, who has yet to win since claiming the world championship late last year. Spain’s Ion Izagirre finished fourth on the stage to take the overall lead by seven seconds, with one stage to go.
