WEIRD CITY (YouTube Premium )

YouTube Premium has launched what seems to be its answer to Netflix’s Black Mirror, a six-part, dystopian anthology series with episodes focusing on everything from fitness crazes to online dating. It comes to us from the minds of Jordan Peele and Charlie Sanders and features a star-studded cast including Dylan O’Brien, Michael Cera, Rosario Dawson, Steven Yeun, Awkwafina, Laverne Cox and even the voice of Mark Hamill. It looks kind of bonkers and is apparently a little less grim than Black Mirror. You can watch the first two episodes free, but you’ll have to subscribe to YouTube premium for the rest.

HEARTBREAK ISLAND (TVNZ)

It’s that time of year again and Heartbreak Island is back for a whole new season of debauchery for your (guilty) pleasure. Mark Dye returns without co-host Matilda Rice (who is having a baby) to guide 12 new singles through a journey to find love — or lust — and potentially walk away with $100,000. Plus there’s said to be some “new elements” in the mix this season that promise even more drama than last time. New episodes of Heartbreak Island will be available to stream on TVNZ On Demand from 6am every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

VERONICA MARS (TVNZ)

TVNZ has given viewers a powerful gift in the form of Veronica

Mars returning to our screens this year. All three seasons of the iconic teen drama from the early 2000s are now available to binge on TVNZ On Demand and boy, is it a good time! It follows the quick-witted, take-no-nonsense super sleuth Veronica through everything from high school dramas to murder mysteries. And with messages of diversity, acceptance, family and friendship, plus an incredible female lead in Kristen Bell, it still holds up impressively well more than a decade later.

ONCE UPON A TIME (Neon)

Once Upon a Time takes some of your favourite characters from popular kids’ stories and Disney classics, and dumps them into the modern world. Snow White, Prince Charming, Little Red Riding Hood and more feature, as they attempt to piece together their storybook memories. Along the way you get some emotional tales of redemption, vengeance, self-discovery, family and, of course, true love. Oh, and some wonderfully OTT villains, too. It’s a bit of light fun, perfect for a lazy weekend. All seven seasons are landing on Neon this Saturday.
