Former Anglican church for sale

-

A church building dating back to 1924, located on the corner of Riccarton Rd and Mandeville St in Christchurch, is being sold by Church Property Trustees as part of their ongoing consolidation.

Home to the former St James’ Anglican Church, the building has been vacant since the earthquakes with the Riccarton parish merging with St Martin’s in Spreydon. Most of the building currently rates at 50 per cent NBS.

It is being sold by deadline private treaty (unless sold prior) at 4pm, on August 13. Courtney Doig, an investment sales specialist with Colliers International in Christchurch, says the exterior of the church is heritage protected but the building is open to a variety of uses.

“This is a significant land holding in a prime location, representing considerable development potential and the ability to add value,” he says.

Zoned Residential Medium Density, the 2,539sq m freehold property lends itself to several potential redevelopment options other than housing. These sorts of activities include education, preschools, health care, small scale bed and breakfast accommodation and small scale home businesses. Subject to council approvals, we think this would make for a spectacular restaurant, bar and events venue.”

Enjoying a north facing garden setting, the site has a 60m frontage onto Riccarton Rd and 43m onto Mandeville St. The property also includes a hall, built in 1987.
